Statement
If elected, I look forward to continuing the work of this great Pacific Northwest Section of the Society for Range Management. The use and value of rangeland resources are faceted and connected so that management allows for many values to be achieved at once. Ecological processes understood and observed by members of the Section help prove this concept works.
Claudia Ingham is a Senior Instructor II in the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences at Oregon State University where she teaches courses in both Rangeland Sciences and Animal Sciences. Currently, she teaches a rangeland principles course, ecology of grasslands, rangeland-animal relations, rangeland management planning and pastoral systems of the world in addition to ethical issues of animals in society.
Dr. Ingham uses a systems approach to all her professional endeavors including her consultancy Ecological and Agricultural Consulting which provides farm and ranch audits for the Food Alliance as well as pasture management advice for small farms in western Oregon. Her efforts to involve students and community members in SRM is evident. Several former OSU students have joined various Sections of the society and then moved into leadership roles. She leads the PNW Collegiate Activities team which was able to provide support for an OSU and a Treasure Valley Community College student to attend the SRM 2026 International meeting in Monterey, California.
Dr. Ingham served on the board of the SRM Pacific Northwest Section https://pnwsrm.org/ and received its 2022 Exemplary Service Award. In 2019, NACTA (North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture) awarded Dr. Ingham a Teaching Award of Excellence.
During her term as Chair of the SRM Targeted Grazing Committee https://rangelands.org/committees/targeted-grazing-committee/she lead the team that developed the SRM Targeted Grazier Certification, SRM’s newest certification program. This recognition of the knowledge and skills of graziers is a continuation of her research on targeted grazing of Himalayan blackberry and English ivy with goats which is published in Invasive Plant Science and Management.
If elected to the SRM PNW Board, I would strive to continue my outreach efforts to involve students from across the PNW, ranchers and restoration organizations to enhance our impact through collaboration. I would try to embody the philosophy of folks such as President Theodore Roosevelt who said, “Optimism is a good characteristic, but if carried to an excess, it becomes foolishness. We are prone to speak of the resources of this country as inexhaustible; this is not so.”
Vote Below by September 24.
If you are interested in serving PNW Section in some capacity, there is a place at the bottom of the ballot to specify your interest.
Voters must be paid up members of SRM. We ask for your Name and eMail in order to verify your eligibility to vote.
