Pat Shaver has consistently and competently demonstrated his devotion to the rangelands of the Pacific Northwest, North America, and indeed the entire globe.
In a career-long employment with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, in a post-retirement career as a professor at Oregon State University, in consulting in near and far-flung corners of the world, and in service to the Society for Range Management at both the Section and the Parent Society levels…Dr. Shaver has shown that the land and the people associated with that land are critical to the well-being of everyone.
Some of the highlights of Pat’s efforts include serving on the Parent Society Board of Directors, serving as our international SRM President, consulting at home and in as distant places as Mongolia, and teaching a number of the core classes germane to students gaining a degree in Rangeland Ecology and Management at Oregon State University.
Each of these chapters of his luster filled career have been successfully and capably executed and raves about his effectiveness are given by everyone from students, colleagues, those who worked under his supervision, and those who provided his supervision. They consistently praise his ability to teach, explain, investigate, and encourage those who were privileged to work with him.
The international Society for Range Management in general and the Pacific Northwest Section in particular are fortunate to have this individual in our midst. We are pleased to call him a colleague and a friend. The Pacific Northwest Section of the Society for Range Management is proud to confer the honor of the title 2017 Trail Boss on Dr. Pat Shaver.
