Carlos Ochoa PhD

Dr. Carlos G. Ochoa has been an active member of the Society for Range Management for more than two decades, the last 11 years here in the PNW section. Carlos has been involved in all aspects of the Society throughout his career. Most recently, he has served us here in the PNW section in the leadership roles of the President’s chairs.
During this time, he promoted and helped procure the 2025 Society for Range Management’s Annual Meeting to be held in Spokane, WA. After promoting and securing the AM, Carlos agreed to serve as co-Chair of the Planning Committee and has been leading that effort for the last year.
Carlos has served the Society in several other ways including the Advisory Council for three years and as Chair of the Nominations Committee for two years. He spent six years on the Program Accreditation Committee which he also chaired for two. During his time on the Accreditation Committee, Carlos served on several visitation teams, chairing at least one of those visitations. While serving SRM in these many roles Carlos also served as Leader of the Rangeland Sciences Program for the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences at Oregon State University for two years.
Dr. Ochoa’s academic career begin at the University of Chihuahua with a BS degree in Animal and Rangeland Sciences followed by an MS and PhD earned from New Mexico State University focusing on range economics and rangeland hydrology. Carlos held several positions within these institutions before accepting an Assistant Professor position at Oregon State University in 2013. Now as an Associate Professor at OSU, Carlos teaches both undergraduate and graduate classes within the Rangeland Science program and leads the Ecohydrology Lab within the Department. His research focuses on restoration and monitoring of ecological and hydrological processes in rangelands and other agricultural systems in various ecosystems throughout Oregon, New Mexico, and Chihuahua, MX. His lab collaborates with multiple stakeholders, including producers, state and federal agency personnel, and researchers from various institutions. Currently, Carlos mentors 11 graduate students in various disciplines at OSU. We often see his students at both PNW and parent society meetings giving presentations of their work. Carlos has over 100 publications including 53 peer reviewed journal articles and six book chapters.
