Vanessa performs research and outreach on management solutions for degraded or threatened sage-steppe, effects of juniper encroachment and removal on wildlife, effects of grazing on sagebrush ecosystems and wildlife.
Vanessa spends about half of her time on stakeholder-driven applied research projects and the other half advancing education and outreach programs around sagebrush ecosystem management and education and developing management solutions for degraded or threatened sage-steppe.
Vanessa’s recent extension projects include:
- Development of Threat Based Land Management tools for use in Greater Sage-grouse Candidate Conservation Agreements with Assurances and across sagebrush country
- Collaboration with OSU, SageCon and High Desert Partnership members to edit and publish an 11 article special issue in Rangelands focused on the barriers and opportunities for addressing invasive annual grasses in the Great Basin.
